Every monetary policy announcement triggers the same question from borrowers: what happens to my EMI? The answer depends entirely on your loan's benchmark.
Repo-linked loans (most floating retail loans sanctioned after October 2019) reprice within three months of a policy move — transmission is near-automatic. MCLR-linked loans respond slower, on reset dates and only to the extent bank funding costs change.
Lenders typically adjust tenure rather than EMI by default. A rate cut may silently shorten your loan instead of easing your monthly outgo — you can request an EMI recalculation instead.
For business borrowers, policy moves shift working-capital pricing too. A review of your spread over the benchmark at renewal often yields more than the policy move itself.
